Marlen Wahl

I have had more than my share of the best things in life. I’ve been happily married fo 47 years to Phyllis and we have a daughter and 2 sons, and 5 grandchildren. I retired from meat-cutting after 43 years and have resided in Bloomington for the last 37 years. We have traveled all over the world and now spend a month in Florida every winter and I have a great family and friends.

    Marlen Lyle Wahl September 7, 1938 - February 2, 2025

Wahl, Marlen Lyle, Age 86, of Bloomington passed away on February 2nd, 2025. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend will always be remembered for his kind heart, easy demeanor, friendly smile, and great sense of humor.

Marlen was born in Otter Tail County, Minnesota and lived his childhood in Elizabeth and Perham, Minnesota. He moved to Minneapolis as a teenager and graduated from Minneapolis Central High School. He met his future wife Phyllis where she was working at an A&W root beer stand and they were married in 1960. Marlen served in the US Army stationed in Highland Park, IL where they lived for 2 years before moving back to Minneapolis. Marlen worked at almost every large grocery store chain during his career as a meat cutter and manager. He moved to Bloomington where he loved his home, raising his 3 children, and taking care of his grandchildren. Marlen loved taking care of his perfectly manicured lawn, travelling, bowling, and reading at the library. He was lucky to have his wonderful wife Phyllis as a rock by his side and many friends including his "old gang" of childhood friends who celebrated holidays, events, and gathered in Cocoa Beach every year together. Marlen was liked by everyone he met, always had a smile on his face, never wanted to inconvenience anyone, and set an example of how to treat others. He will be greatly missed.

Preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Lily; sisters Georgine Martinson and Helen Hanninen, and brother Stanley Wahl. Recently joined by brother Ordean Wahl. Survived by beloved wife Phyllis; children Tracy, James, and Daniel (Nicole) Wahl; grandchildren Devin (Cammy), Nathan, Ryan, Jake, and Alexandra; sister Marlene Wilczek; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Services will be held at 11am February 13, 2025 at St Bonaventure Catholic Community, 901 E 90th St, Bloomington, with visitation starting at 10am at the church. Reception immediately following in the parish school. Private interment at Lakewood Cemetery.
